Manchester United have a tough trip to Goodison Park to face a resurgent Everton under David Moyes.
Just a few weeks ago, Everton were still worried about relegation. However, David Moyes’ return to the dugout has brought about a remarkable turnaround.
They have overtaken Manchester United in the Premier League table. Since David Moyes took over the Toffees for the second time, no team has won more points than Everton (13 points, 6 games).
The Merseyside side have won just 3 of Sean Dyche’s 19 Premier League games this season, scoring 7 goals from open play.
But David Moyes and his players have done more in both areas, after just 6 games (4 wins, 8 goals from open play).
Everton’s goal is to climb to the top half of the table, with high spirits, clearly shown in the recent 2-2 draw with rivals Liverpool.
The fighting spirit of the blue team is soaring, helping them play sublimely, finding an equalizer against the top team in the last seconds of extra time.
In contrast to their opponents, MU is still in a comprehensive crisis. In the first leg, the Red Devils crushed Everton 4-0, but that was a strange result, when they scored 4 goals from an expected goals xG of 0.73.
Since then, Amorim’s team has lost 8/12 matches in the Premier League, including 5/6 matches right at home at OId Trafford.
The difficulties are even more surrounding MU when a series of key players are absent due to injuries, spanning all three lines such as Lisandro Martinez, Kobbie Mainoo or Amad Diallo.
The Red Devils’ attack is a big problem as Rasmus Hojlund has failed to score in 15 games, while Joshua Zirzkee has failed to score in the Premier League in his last 12 appearances.
Bringing that disappointing performance to Goodison Park, MU will hardly be able to triumph like last season.
